National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Missouri Valley Chapter Selection Procedure

    1) All junior and senior students with a GPA of 3.5 are informed of their eligibility into the National Honor Society

    2) To earn consideration for induction into the NHS, eligible students must complete the NHS eligibility form provided by the NHS advisor

    3) The entire high school staff is invited to vote on potential NHS members and this data (along with the eligibility form, and knowledge of each student) is considered by the NHS Faculty Council

    4) The Missouri Valley Faculty Council (consisting of five anonymous MV staff and one non-voting NHS advisor) uses a variety of information to make the final decision on inductees. To obtain membership, candidates must meet all four criteria of the National Honor Society (Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character)

    5) Faculty Council final selections must receive approval from the high school principal

    6) Inductees and those not selected will be informed of the Faculty Council’s decisions prior to the school’s induction ceremony
